SummitMedia Promotes Two On-Air Legends
SummitMedia, LLC announces the promotion of two on-air legends to lead stations in our Honolulu cluster.
Kona Chang is the new program director for KCCN FM 100 The Legend and Hawaiian 105 (KINE). Micah Banks moves into the program director role for both Krater 96.3 (KRTR) and Power 104.3 (KPHW).
“The promotion of these two Hawaii radio legends as leaders in our company affirm our commitment to continuing the tradition of Hawaiian music,” said Patti Ponimoi. “SummitMedia is dedicated to our listeners, our business partners, and growing the brand of these great radio stations.”
Chang launched his radio career back in 1997 as ‘Island Boy.’ Listeners know him from Power 104.3, Krater 96.3, and Hawaiian 105.
“The best part of my job has always been listening to music, talking to people, and sharing relatable life stories. I’m grateful to continue to entertain my listeners while growing our Hawaiian music brands,” Chang said. “Our local SummitMedia team is great, and I’m excited about this next chapter.”
Hawaiian born and raised in Waimanalo on the island of O’ahu, Kona Chang is part of a family of musicians, including famed Hawaiian singer Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Chang began his entertainment career at 14, performing with the Tropical Knights. Immersed in the local musical culture for more than 30 years, he holds two Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, one with the Tropical Knights, from the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts.
Micah Banks is a Honolulu native and proud graduate of Damien Memorial High School. His first taste of the spotlight came with his dance crew Full Court Press. For the past 15 years, he has worked for Power 104.3, where he worked his way from the street team to having his own show.
“Music is in my blood, and the radio business is my life’s work. I’m constantly learning more each day,” Banks said. “Every day, I strive to make these stations great. I’m honored that SummitMedia leaders have the confidence in me to lead them.”
SummitMedia’s Honolulu stations include Krater 96.3 (KRTR), Hawaiian 105 (KINE), KCCN FM 100 The Legend, Power 104.3 (KPHW), AM 940 (KKNE AM), and KPRP 650 AM.
