SummitMedia Restructures Programming Leadership Team

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. (February 5, 2021) — SummitMedia, LLC announces its new programming leadership team and a renewed focus on delivering an unparalleled experience for its listeners. SummitMedia operates stations in nine markets, which feature Top 40, Hot AC, AC, Rhythmic, Hip Hop, R&B, Country, Sports, Talk, Rock, Classic Rock, and Alternative.

“Our goal is to bring each Summit brand experience to life and innovate in the media space,” said CEO Carl Parmer. “While the past year disrupted radio as we knew it as well as experiencing the recent passing of programming legend Bill Tanner, we recognize the incredible opportunities before us for those who can deliver fresh ideas to the industry.”

Parmer taps Randy Chase, who joined SummitMedia in July, as the new Executive Vice President of Programming to lead the company’s strategic and programming charge. Chase brings more than three decades of experience across multiple formats and now oversees a team of Brand and Content Leaders (BCL). These leaders support the SummitMedia culture of excellence and collaboration and work closely with program directors, operations managers and market managers to grow the brands they oversee.

John Olsen, Senior Vice President of Programming manages Rock, Classic Rock and Alternative along with special projects.

SummitMedia’s Maurice DeVoe, who has been operations manager for the Greenville, South Carolina cluster, moves into the BCL role for the company’s Rhythmic Top 40, Hip Hop, and R&B stations. When DeVoe joined Summit in March 2020, he arrived with 20 years’ worth of experience in rhythmic formats, having been the corporate program director for Cumulus Media Inc. where he oversaw programming for the company’s 39 rhythmic and R&B stations.

New to the SummitMedia team is Rick Thomas, formerly the vice president of programming for Max Media Denver. Thomas is the new BCL for Top 40, Hot AC and AC formats. He also assumes day-to-day programming for WWST (Star 102.1) in Knoxville. Thomas is a seasoned programming veteran with stints in New York (WBMP), Los Angeles (K-Earth 101 and KTWV), San Diego (Magic 92.5 XHRM and Z90 XHTZ) and the Ohana Broadcast Group in Honolulu.

“We have assembled a team with both incredible experience and a tremendous hunger to capitalize on the disruption in the media space and arrive first into the next normal,” Chase said. “With this leadership team in place, I believe we will deliver highly engaging products for our consumers and set up every member of the SummitMedia team to perform at their full potential.”
