On Air Street Traffic Position - Birmingham

Job Description: 

SummitMedia, Birmingham is looking for the next addition to our on-air traffic content team. Do you have what it takes to deliver an energetic and conversational sound on Birmingham’s top rated radio stations? Are you a self-starter that goes the extra mile to ensure you’re providing the most accurate information to our audience? Previous newsroom, on-air radio, TV, or similar audio experience preferred. Consistent social media use a must. Hours may vary including early morning hours, split shift, holidays weekends and more. 

Duties include: 

  • Gathering, writing, recording, editing, delivering traffic reports in AM and/or PM drive-time 
  • Voicing traffic reports to air on broadcast, web and app platforms 
  • Monitoring traffic cams, Twitter feeds, listener texts, calls and other sources to provide reliable and accurate information 
  • Post, edit & manage Traffic information to social media accounts  
  • Providing live reads of sponsors within designated reports 
  • Other duties as required by management 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 1-year traffic or news reporting for broadcast media 
  • Knowledge of Birmingham, AL geography, roads, city names and transportation systems essential 
  • Must be computer literate, have excellent writing and presentation skills 
  • Must be helpful in news, traffic, and weather gathering operation. 
  • A valid driver’s license, satisfactory completion of a motor vehicle record check, and, if the position requires use of applicant’s own vehicle, proof of insurance, is required
