Chris Protzman most recently was VP/GM for E.W. Scripps Knoxville radio operations. He also served as VP of Radio Sales for the 34 stations in the radio group.
Chris is a Wisconsin native and a graduate of St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI. Protzman began his professional broadcast career at Journal Broadcast Group’s Flagship Milwaukee station, Newsradio 620 WTMJ-AM, when he was hired as an Account Executive in 1987. In 1994 he was promoted to Local Sales Manager of the station. He left in 1996 to pursue an ownership position as a partner of K.L. Stewart & Assocs. He later returned to Journal Broadcast Group in 2001 as General Sales Manager for Milwaukee’s WKTI-FM.
In 2004, Protzman was named VP/GM of the Journal Broadcast Group’s Knoxville Operations, a four-station cluster that includes WWST-FM, WCYQ-FM, WKHT-FM and WCYQ-FM. He was named Regional SVP in 2012 with oversight duties of the FOX Network and JBG affiliates in Lansing, Boise and Ft. Myers. He lead Television Original Programming Project team along with company-wide Innovation Grant program as well serving VP/GM of Knoxville Radio Operations.
In September 2018, he transitioned to his current Radio group role and remains active in several professional, charitable and civic organizations. Current board member of the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters, Founder and Current President-Emeritus of the Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation, Past board member of Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation and current Volunteer and Committee Chair at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.
